We are seeking an entrepreneurial, hands-on financial leader who can operate at pace and will play a key role in the company’s journey. This is a fascinating point at which to join an already successful business in a rapidly growing market with a proven model and strong brand.

Reporting to and working closely with the CFO, the Director of Controlling will operate as his de facto second in command, managing and continuously enhancing the controlling organization. You will quickly understand the business fast and will be able to systematically assess, pilot through and plan financials thoroughly and transparently.

As a highly visible leader in the organisation, you will be partnering with and acting as an advisor to the CFO and the wider leadership team, providing financial counsel in support of business decisions and performance for global operations. You will be expected to provide high quality, proactive and commercially insightful analysis to ensure the business tracks and clearly reports its financial and commercial objectives. Upon joining the business, you will quickly get up to speed with the structure and processes in place as well as build your understanding of the company's ways of working. Based on this insight, you will keep developing the controlling function holistically. You will support the company through fast-changing situations, and challenges where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for all controlling activities of the group, including planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis
  • Preparation of the data, information and KPIs through the  the introduction and continuous improvement of best-in-class and efficient processes/tools
  • Review and analysis of the monthly financial statements, including maintenance of risks and opportunities
  • Support and advise - be the sparring partner to the rest of the finance team and leadership team
  • Implementation and continuous improvement of the monthly reporting, including the creation of the monthly rolling forecasts
  • Creation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide guidance and support to the leadership team and department heads on projects and special topics (e.g. investment calculation, project controlling, deviation analyzes, creation of new business cases, etc.)
  • Be the direct contact person for the parent companies (Ringier and Mobiliar) from a controlling stand-point. 
  • Management, support and development of 4 controlling FTEs directly and 8 in total
  • Preparation of cash flow and capex planning
  • Lead ad-hoc deep dive analysis on various business related matters across the organisation
  • Maintain a well functioning controlling systems landscape, in close cooperation with the Finance Tech team
  • Spread and foster financial literacy across the company
  • Collaborate with all levels of the business on data consistency, transparency and promoting a data driven culture company-wide.

Key Requirements 

  • Several years experience in an international high-growth tech environment, executing at pace, ideally in marketplace/platform or ecommerce setting with a high volume of transactions
  • Experience working in a ‘best in class’ controlling function and familiarity with what a strong  environment looks like, where internal customer satisfaction is a key success factor
  • Degree in finance or business administration coupled with a solid controlling track record at senior level
  • At least 5 years of experience in a financial management position, dealing with key stakeholders internally and externally
  • Experience in accounting / financial management and basic knowledge of data analytics
  • Clear communicator, highly analytical and metrics driven, with the ability to think deeply and qualitatively about business problems, breaking down issues and presenting solutions
  • Entrepreneurial with a high level of energy, proactiveness and curiosity, seeking impact and having fun while doing it
  • Ability to structure and develop a high performing team and scale the group controlling function (including processes and tools)
  • Ability to set a clear focus on priorities and execute on them effectively
  • Resourceful outlook, humble, open-minded, eternally hands-on, team-orientated, down to earth and fun to work with each day.
